John the Ripper user community resources

This is the namespace for John the Ripper password cracker. It contains pages on and links to things such as

• most useful and currently relevant excerpts from the john-users mailing list

• step-by-step tutorials for end-users (both basic and advanced stuff)

• advanced usage examples beyond those included in the official documentation; these differ from the tutorials above in that they show individual steps only

• patches as well as

  • how to make them (and how to license your code properly)

• sample password hash encoding strings

• existing efforts to introduce parallel processing and distributed processing into JtR

• custom builds (that is, JtR pre-compiled in specific ways and for specific operating systems)
