Installation

Das ISO kann sowohl als Live-CD als auch Installationsmedium verwendet werden. Will man Openwall lokal installieren, gibt man beim “command prompt” settle ein:

root@localhost:/usr/src/world # settle

Danach kommt man in ein ncurses Menü, welches durch die Installation führt. Als erstes muss die Festplatte partitioniert werden:

Repartition hard disk(s) (required)

Einige Informationen, wie man die Festplatte partitionieren sollte/kann sind auf Englisch verfügbar: Example disk partitioning schemes for Owl

Hier die Empfehlungen und Schemata:

• /dev/sda1 or /dev/md0 - swap - size varies a lot depending on expected needs and available disk space to waste
• /dev/sda2 or /dev/md1 - boot and root filesystem - 1 GB or 2 GB (currently, a full install needs about 500 MB)
• /dev/sda3 or /dev/md2 - /space - size varies a lot depending on expected needs and on whether more partitions are created or not
• /dev/sda4, /dev/sda5 (if extended partition table is created), or /dev/md3 - /vz - normally uses the rest of the disk

Die Partition erfolgt mit Hilfe von fdisk (console oder ncurses).

Sobald man die Partitionierung abgeschlossen hat, geht man zurück zum Ausgangsmenü und wählt den nächsten Punkt aus:

Select & mount install partitions (required)

Hat man sich an obiges Schema gehalten, wählt man sda2 als “root partition”, sda3 als Mountpunkt: /space und sda4 als /vz

Activate swap space (recommended)

Hier sda1 als Swap aktivieren. Kommt der Fehler, dass keine entsprechende Partition gefunden wurde, wählt man “Use uNlisted…” und gibt /dev/sda1 manuell ein.

Install packages (required)

Durchlaufen lassen und mit Enter wieder ins Hauptmenü…

Configure localization (optional)

Hier - bei Bedarf - Keyboardmap, fonts, locales anpassen…

Set root password (required)

Root Passwort wählen…

Create /etc/fstab (required)

/etc/fstab generieren lassen…

Select timezone (recommended)

Zeitzone auswählen…

Configure network (strongly recomended)

Hostname, IP, Netmask, DNS, etc. eintragen…

Install bootloader (required)

/dev/sda wählen…

Rebooten - CD entfernen –> Installation abgeschlossen…
